In the developing of nearly 20 years in
Taiwan, student movements play an important role in the democracy or economics
process. In the student movements, women’s activities are never absent. Female
members in student movements become more aggressive and active members in women
right’s protest and keep their influence from school to the society. Though
being a seemingly radical right’s protestor, they claim that struggle between
men and women or discrimination have never declined on them. Through the four
active female members of student movements from 1990, about the time of Wild
Lily, there are women’s issue that still be questioned even nowadays.
“We
devote ourselves into protection of country or history, however in the meantime
we cannot deal with the main problem as
being a woman.” (Ho, 2014) Female
members of student movements are easily be suspected as puppets, which are
meant to be controlled by others or be forced to become a shadow of the issue (Ho,
2014). Rather than believing they stand for their own rights, people tend to
think women are influenced by a bigger authority behind them, and especially
men. Such condition show that no matter how high the status they have gained,
as high as a leader member in the student movements, their identity as a woman
is still be picked out and inspected spectacularly. Also, revolutionary for
country or politics can easily gain resonance from the society, while women’s
right are not. On the other hands, women’s
issues are inside almost every kinds of class notion, such as labor, family, or
gender, but there are seldom voices strong enough to truly shake the notice
or break the myth and discrimination. For
example, in 1990’s, the period of rapid progress of industry, most of the
workers in factory are women. However,
the personnels or main employers of the guild are usually men.(Ho, 2014) They
also faced predicament inside their protest of women’s right, “If our movement
are actually making women’s situation, not the men’s, even worse, that we must
have been wrong.” (Ho, 2014)
Just
as they’ve said, the true issues, true problems of women are seldom exposed to
the public. To my own opinion, when the power of maternal love, such as
tenderness or inborn ability of taking care of others, are keep emphasizing by
the society, or even women themselves, then women’s power would always be
considered weaker and useless. Furthermore, if women’s issues are actually
inside no matter what different kinds of composition of society, then we should
make sure that the proper, or, a health notion of women, or the whole gender,
such as equality and autonomy, should exist in every members of the society. At
the meantime, we should ask people about
respect the autonomy of women, no matter what they decide to do, and stop
suspecting or inspecting their identity as a woman.

回覆刪除L: in my latest annotation4 I’ve chose about four female members, leader members of movement in the 1990s about the Wild Lily Student Movement野百合學運. They are the leaders of the student movement. I chose the article because there are interview of them and they’ve talked about their identity of a woman and also a leadership in a large movement of for testers. Inside the article they separately talked about their struggle between their identity of a woman, social expectation, and discrimination on them. I quote some sentences from them such as “we devote ourselves into protection of country and history. However in the meantime, we cannot deal with the man problems as being a woman. Female members of student movement are also expected as a puppet because people will tend to think they are being controlled by other. They don’t believe to their autonomy of becoming a leader of a student movement. ” They also talk about women discrimination in our society even nowadays because they think there are lots of protests on the streets or labels about gay marriage issues, but nowadays there are less and less protests about women for them to come out for their right or make a successful society for them.
W: There are lots of quotes in your article. And I think the quote you just mention is very interesting. We cannot deal with the man problems as being a woman, so want to ask you what do you think is man problem as being a woman.
L: Because I think the activity the one like have three questions is because they are active in activities such a protest for the laborship or for lots of social issue. But they still have their private life to be a good student or a good daughter or be someone else’ mother. Inside their relationships they still face the problem of being a woman such as being looked as a family boundary or be looked as they don’t have equality as man. That’s why I should say that the still cannot deal with man problems as being a woman even they are the leaders of student movement.
W: Do you think female members of student movement are used as puppet is a stereotype?
L: I think perhaps as the time are passing because the example I’ve chose is from 1990s, the Wild Lily Student Movement, and they are still the leaders. Bit at that time there are lots of boys asking why can they do this? Who can those girl students be a leader of a student movement? It’s because they are being controlled by the power behind them. They are just like an imaginary of the issue but are not really the voices of the issue. They are just being controlled.
W: You also mention women issue are inside of almost every kind of class notion such as labor family, or gender. I’m curious about what kind of example about is the women issue in the labor? Glass ceiling?
L: I think why women issues are inside almost inside every class notion is because women are exactly inside those compositions of society such as labor family or even gender issue. In the labor place, there are discrimination and stereotype about against women. Not to mention women issue inside families. And in gender is also because there are multi-gender. Maybe they don’t have single gender.
W: Do have some ideal or opinion to the situation that the period of rapid progress of industry, most of the workers in factory are women instead of men?
Li: I think that is because in our traditional concept that woman are usually being managed by men. Men used to dominate all the things as employers of others. So at that time when Taiwanese …industry are progressing actually in the factory of 紡織工廠裡面, actually, the workers are almost as many as women. But the prisonals those managers are actually deciding their fortune, fate about work is always men’s. So lots of activities notice the situation. But the situation doesn’t improve. Men think women as workers would make troubles when working. If
回覆刪除W: The women rights movement has held at least for a long time. But the situation still exists. Do you think it is related to…because of the management now is men, so if everybody received the concept of women and men should be treated equally and the men’s state will be threatened?
L: The failure still exists because women’s power is still weak. We are supposed to be more quite, more tender. We always connect ourselves to that stereotype. This is a weaker part than the men because they have right to talk loud. If we don’t truly abandon those qualities, we cannot get the echo success.
W: In your conclusion, I don’t know it is a quote or your own opinion? “We should ask people about respect the autonomy of women, no matter what they decide to do, and stop suspecting or inspecting their identity as a woman.” I think it is a concept you mention in your annotation 3. After reading your annotaion3 and 4, I agree with you men concept every much. You mentioned that women should not be always compared with men. That is not the true equal. I think the core idea is the more important part of comparing men and women doesn’t let women do what they really want by their own wills. Women and men really want to get equal. We shouldn’t depend on the surface situation. We need to look deeply inside women. I want to ask what is the main right to women should be respected?
L: Women’s autonomy what they really want to do. The free will. Also, the popularity, the society should…I don’t think they would have rapid change unless the society truly throw their stereotype and face the real quality between men and women because even nowadays many people still don’t admit the situation. Equality should never be a causes or reasons why people should not respect women’s autonomy.
W: From your issue paper and annotation 1~4, I’m curious about why you chose this topic? Do you have found some unequal situation and you want to get rid of it or you can; bear with it? So you want to change the status?
L: I think I was proud of myself influenced by my family because I’ve reached some problems. I also have some question inside my own family and I would like to know why or why not. I would like to know what people really think of a character of a new woman, a working new mother. This is what I curious about.
